In Poland a regular army ministration was introduced by the Warsaw parliament in 1690. However, the course of political events which took place in the 18th century prevented the army and army ministration from being completely reorganized. Along with the third annexation of Poland in 1795, Poland disappeared from the map of Europe. The time of the fight for Polish independence started. Although Poland did not exist anymore on the map of Europe, the activity of army chaplains did not finish. Moreover, they took an active part in the fights for Polish independence. They were strongly involved in the Dąbrowski Legions, and they also participated in uprisings or on the fronts during World War I, servicing not only in Polish troops but also in foreign ones. The article presents the activity of Polish army chaplains during the November and January uprisings, and thus during the time which was one of the hardest and most difficult moments for Polish people who were fighting for the independence of their country. | ||
