Summary: | The article analyses the relations between religiosity and morality. The category of religiosity in the study of religion is rarely compared with morality seen in a historical-cultural perspective. The main cultural context studied here is both Christianity in its different ideological variants and secular culture. Using the method of a historical-cultural comparative study, the author proposes four types of religiosity, which are then related to morality. The first type of religiosity, a voluntarist one, can be traced back to St. Augustine and represents a type of morality ascribed to traditional Christian orthodoxy. The second type of religiosity, an autonomic one, is more liberal and its origins can be found in the Socratic thought and the doctrine of Pelagianism. The third and fourth currents of religiosity represent a secular and post-secular type of morality which are also ideologically and historically inspired. The conclusions of the article point to the ambiguity of the research problem posed and different possible moral and ethical conclusions resulting from the comparisons. |
