In this paper it will be argued that, although papyrological and inscriptional evidence from the Hellenistic period has unquestionably helped to situate the language of the Septuagint in the vernacular of that time (as G.A. Deissmann was saying over a century ago), there is nonetheless incontrovertible evidence as well of the influence of the source text on the product of the translators’ efforts. | ||
