| Resumo: | OrisaworshipisanattributeoftheYorubapeople.Thepracticeatteststothefactthat,contrarytotheEurocentricviewsoftheEuropeansthatAfricanswereatheists,AfricanswerenotoriouslyreligiousthroughtheirbelieveinOlodumare(thesupremedeity)andotherdeitieswhowerebelievedtobeintermediariesbetweenGodandman.TheirreligiositybeforetheadventoftheEuropeansisalsoaconfirmationofadvancementofAfricancivilization.However,sequeltotheencounterwithcolonialismandChristianity,Orisaworship(ATR)hasneverremainedthesame.ThisstudythereforeaimsatexaminingOrisaworshipinYorubalandwithaviewtoascertaininghowitrespondedtochangesoccasionedbyChristianity,thereligiouswingoftheEuropeancolonialism.Thestudyadoptshistoricalapproachwhichdependsonwritten,oralandarchivalsources.OralinterviewswillbeconductedwithpurposivelyselectedkeyinformantssuchaspriestandcustodiansofYorubadeitiesintheareaofthestudy,kings,chiefsandchurchleaderswhoareofconsiderableages.AninvestigationofamatterthatconcernschangeandadaptationintheYorubatraditionalreligionwillnodoubtrevealthingsthatarebasicallyAfricansandthose that are Europeans in the Yoruba Orisa worship system. |
