Algumas destas mestres espirituais (gurus) modernas tornaram-se mediadoras culturais, ao iniciarem movimentos religiosos internacionais com milhares de praticantes ao redor do globo e assim patrocinarem o encontro de culturas e o trânsito de crenças religiosas. | ||

These women defy the model of submission that is traditionally attributed to Indian women, assuming a position that involves power, authority and independence, contrary to the requirements of religious texts that establish the devotion to their home and husband as their highest spiritual goal.
