Summary: | The article examines The Saga of Hervör and discusses the magic aspects related to the presence of Tyrfingr, one of the best known cursed swords in Norse literature, and its role in the saga. First of all the sword characteristics are analyzed in relation to the different testimonies given by the tree main versions of the saga carne down to us, then the article deals with the matter of how Hervör obtains the conveyance of the weapon by her deceased father. The analysis of the Song of Hervör, preserved in the saga, is implemented through a comparison with other evidences of the Eddic tradition in order to highlight its common aspects and original traits.
