| Summary: | The typescript "ms. Vitt. Em. 1537" belongs to Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale di Roma. It features M. Ravà's revision to Buonaiuti's translation of Rudolf Otto's Das Heilige. Up to now the revision was not known. The paper aims to describe the typescript's formal elements and its content. It also compares the typescript to the1926 Buonaiuti's version and to the1926 and the 1936 Das Heilige editions. Furthermore, the essay develops some hypotheses about the reasons why the typescript has not been published. In his last years Buonaiuti, unsatisfied with his translation of Das Heilige, planned to revise it and to publish it in another edition. When he died Ravà, who knew about Buonaiuti's intention, started to revise his translation, without knowing that Buonaiuti himself had already revised Das Heilige. She became aware of Buonaiuti's revision only in 1966, when it was published by Feltrinelli. (English) |
