Diese Konflikte waren dabei nur teilweise durch Migrant:innen ausgelöst. Zumeist führten Instrumentalisierungen durch Rechtspopulist:innen zu einer Zuspitzung der gesellschaftlichen Diskurse. Überhaupt sind die Erfolge des Rechtspopulismus in Europa wohl kaum ohne das "Feindbild" Migration und Islam vorstellbar. In der Konsequenz kam es zu einer bis heute andauernden Polarisierung der Gesellschaft, die eine Gefahr für den gesellschaftlichen Zusammenhalt darstellt. Während Anhänger:innen des Rechtspopulismus Migrant:innen dafür verantwortlich machen, sehen viele andere Beobachter:innen den Grund für die Polarisierung auf rechtspopulistischer Seite. Deutlich wird dabei, dass Werthaltungen, insbesondere auch Ängste in der Bevölkerung für das Verständnis des Verhältnisses von Migration und Demokratie zentral sind. Unsere Forschungsfrage lautet deshalb: Wie wirken sich Einstellungen zu Migration sowie Haltungen von Migrant:innen auf die demokratische politische Kultur aus?Diese Fragestellung lässt sich besonders gut in einer heterogenen Stadtgesellschaft wie Berlin untersuchen. Daher analysieren wir mit Daten des Berlin-Monitors 2019 Haltungen gegenüber und Haltungen von Migrant:innen unter Berücksichtigung ausgewählter politische und religiöse Aspekte. Theoretischer Hintergrund ist der demokratietheoretische Zugang der politischen Kulturforschung in Verbindung mit Ansätzen der Migrationssoziologie und der sozialpsychologischen Vorurteilsforschung. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass die Religionszugehörigkeit eine bedeutende Funktion als Bezugspunkt für Prozesse der Kategorisierung, Stereotypisierung und Abwertung einnimmt. Ferner wird deutlich, dass antimuslimischer Rassismus die demokratische politische Kultur untergräbt und antidemokratische Einstellungen befördert. Dies gilt auch für religiös dogmatische bis fundamentalistische Einstellungen, die unter Berliner Muslim:innen in antisemitische Ressentiments und Ablehnung gegenüber nichtheteronormative Geschlechtsidentitäten münden können. Der Beitrag basiert neben dem Berlin-Monitor auch auf dem durch das BMBF geförderten Projekt "Radikaler Islam versus radikaler Anti-Islam" und der Zusammenarbeit mit dem Forschungsinstitut "Gesellschaftlicher Zusammenhalt". | ||
| 520 | |a Since the refugee movements in 2015 at the latest, the issue of migration has moved to the forefront of virulent social issues and sparked political disputes. These conflicts were only partially triggered by migrants. In most cases, instrumentalizations by right-wing populists led to a heightened social discourse. In general, the successes of right-wing populism in Europe can hardly be imagined without the "bogeyman image" of migration and Islam. As a result, there was a polarization of society that continues to this day and poses a threat to social cohesion. While supporters of right-wing populism blame migrants for this, many observers see the reason for the polarization on the right-wing populist side. It becomes clear that attitudes, especially fears, are central to the relationship between migration and democracy in the population. Our research question is therefore: How do attitudes towards migration and the attitudes of migrants affect a democratic political culture?This question can be examined particularly well in a heterogeneous and modern urban society like Berlin. With data from the Berlin Monitor 2019, we analyze attitudes towards and attitudes of migrants, taking into account political and religious aspects. Theoretical background is the democratic theoretical approach of political cultural research in connection with approaches of migration sociology and social psychological prejudice research. The results show that religious affiliation plays an important role as a reference point for processes of categorization, stereotyping and devaluation. It also shows that anti-Muslim racism undermines democratic political culture and promotes anti-democratic attitudes. This also applies to religiously dogmatic to fundamentalist attitudes, which can result in anti-Semitic resentment and rejection of non-heteronormative gender identities among Berlin’s Muslims.
