| Summary: | At the beginning of the twelfth century, a bishop of Valencia, fleeing his city, which had just been reconquered by the Muslims, sailed to Jerusalem. He died, on the way, in Bari, where he left a relic of St. Vincent of Saragossa in the hands of the local archbishop Elia. Part of the relic would then be moved to Venice, where it is documented from the seventeenth century onwards, and finally returned to Valencia, that venerates the martyr as its patron. A documentary fund preserved in the archive of the Valencia Cathedral sheds light on the wide horizon of Mediterranean mobility, connected to devotional practices, and testifies the attention paid to these events by the high ecclesiastical hierarchy of Veneto and Valencia between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. |
