520 |a In the first part, the article points out that although Holy Scripture is held in high esteem in all Christian denominations, it is theologically misleading to equate it with the Word of God or revelation. Instead, it must be understood as a multi-voiced testimony of revelation. Despite its plurality, however, it is possible to speak theologically of a unity of Scripture, which results from the fact that all biblical writings refer to revelation as the divine act of salvation. Since this act of salvation cannot be exhaustively grasped by man, it can only be testified to in plural form. In the second part of the article, the role of the Septuagint within theology is examined. In particular, Joseph Ratzinger's thesis is critically discussed, according to which the emergence of the Septuagint is to be seen as a special act of divine revelation that leads to the connection ofbiblical faith and Hellenistic reason and finally results in Christianity.
