Starting with some observations about the main factors that influence the popular perception of homosexuality in Latvia, the author concludes that there is a discrepancy between the almost hysterical attention towards homosexuality and its place in the Bible, and the everyday life. Possible explanations of this discrepancy are political manipulation, a one-sided reading of the Bible, as well as unconscious fears. If the churches do not agree to discuss the questions related with homosexuality in an open way, without threats and sanctions, they are responsible for scapegoatism. This will only lead to new suffering and radicalization on both sides.
