Violence, whether physical, symbolic or psychic, has always been present in the daily lives of Africans and their descendants here in Brazil. Africans uprooted from their continent from the beginning had to find strategies that would enable them to survive. And it was in religion, in the cult of the orixás that the enslaved found strength to survive the brutalities imposed by the slave system. Subject to a context based on the Eurocentric vision of seeing the world, practitioners of religions of African origin have always had to fight against racism and intolerance in order to preserve and resignify their beliefs on Brazilian soil. | ||
