| Summary: | This paper is about the program Spiritual Direction, led by Father Fabio de Melo. Televised by Canção Nova TV, a station linked to the Catholic Charismatic Renewal. The program fits the mediatic style adopted by this strand of Catholicism. The presenter holds a strong communication apparatus, being one of its flagships this program aired weekly. With his charisma and an approximative rhetoric, the priest-singer makes use of narratives able to create a strong identification with the viewer, with emphasis on selfhelp. We analyzed a corpus consisting of five programs, using content analysis as a methodological tool and adopting the Self-help on the screen as one of the categories. It will be demonstrated, through exemplifications, the strong presence of this category as discursive resource. |
