Starting from mentions to Erasmus in some of his letters, where he advises Scripture scholars to resort to his exegetical works, although cautiously, the discussion has focused on thematic parallels more or less perceptible between the two. In this work, my approach is different: I analyze the explicit references to Erasmus, particularly in the commentary on the Epistle to the Galatians, and then I study implicit citations to some New Testament quotations, often hidden in mentions to the Greek text, which betray the consultation of Erasmian works, especially the Annotationes in Novum Testamentum. With this, I believe that it is possible to rethink on new grounds the discussion on the relationship of Ávila with the prominent Northern Humanist. | ||
