Famine is caused by the lethal fusion of prolonged drought and negative political conditions. The AIDS epidemic, logistical difficulties, donor fatigue, and the debate over genetically modified food have all exacerbated the problem. Despite the seemingly overwhelming challenges, donor countries have a moral imperative to feed the hungry.
