This article extends previous integrative discussions on the concept of mutual recognition and thirdness by exploring the dynamics of a therapist, patient, and supervisor caught, somewhat by surprise, in an enactment that entangles all three. After a brief review of thirdness and current integrative thinking on mutual recognition, the authors (therapist and supervisor), using personal and clinical reflections, discuss their struggle for thirdness while working with a young patient who seeks to express her difference. This case discussion, an example of clinically integrative practice, is followed by a reflection on the nature of emergent integration and the integrative moment. | ||
