| Summary: | The aim of the article is to illustrate the birth and the development of a heavy metal scene in Turkey and in other countries of the Middle East. First, heavy metal will be defined in its musical characteristics. Further, Turkey’s metal scene’s birth will be illustrated, followed by an explanation of the problems that Turkey’s heavy metal scene had to face in order to grow as a social group and as a full-fledged musical scene. Same illustration will follow for the selected countries. The article ends with my conclusions. The purpose of the article, thus, is to highlight the causes of this genre’s worldwide popularity, despite masses’ hostility and censorship and to understand why heavy metal matters so much in Turkey and the Middle East. |
