The first period views the Johannine community prior to the emergence of the Gospel of John and examines its views with regard to christology. The second period examines the Johannine community at the time of the appearance of the gospel of John. Finally, the third period sees the community as facing a crisis from within - a crisis revolving around christology and ethics. Both aspects are examined in detail. The conclusion draws the investigation together by emphasising that the Johannine epistles aim at presenting a guide to a correct interpretation of the gospel of John. | ||
