520 |a In Gal 3:19a Paul asks, "Why therefore the law?" He does not drop the topic after his initial answer, "transgressions," to turn to find the law inferior to the promise. This purpose accords with the function of the law in chs. 2-3, gives rise to the question in 3:21, and leads to the analogy of the jailer and disciplinarian in 3:23-24.
