520 |a The subtitle of this study introduces us to the threefold structure of this work : the authorship of the Colossians Epistle (Chapters 1-4), the structure of the hymn (Chapters 5-6), and the Christology of the hymn (Chapter 7). Pizzuto argues in favour of the pseudepigraphical authorship of the letter and in favour of the integrity of Col 1:15-20 as a hymn composed by the author of the letter for this particular context. He defends a chiastic structure according the pattern A B C B'A' : Christ's role in creation (A = 15-16); summative statement of A (B = 17a); pivotal axis: Christ in creation and Christ in redemption (C = 17b); summative statement of A'(B'= 18a); Christ's role in redemption (A'= 18b-20c). The deutero- Pauline author draws on the conceptual reservoir of Second Temple Judaism as received by the Pauline School to develop his own novel Christological statement : not the "redeemed redeemer" or merely "Wisdom personified", but "Jesus of Nazareth who by the blood of his cross is revealed as nothing less than the image of God-invisible, in whom the very universe is held in existence" (269).
