La prédication de saint Augustin est sévère vis-à-vis des philosophes. Il adhère au projet philosophique, mais récuse ceux qui restent soumis aux elementa mundi, selon Col 2, 8. L’analyse de quelques sermons permet de préciser que cette dénonciation rejaillit sur les platoniciens quand ceux-ci refusent la médiation du Christ.
