The texts of the Middle Ages show that the links between them are far more complex. A first approach is undertaken by considering the « hermeneutical triad » (understanding, interpretation, application) : does it correspond to the three processes described by Peter the Chanter (lectio - disputatio - praedicatio) or rather to the three senses in the exegesis of the Victorines (littera - allegoria - tropologia) ? Both exegesis and predication carry a sacred dimension and try to uncover and transmit the proper nature of the Word which transcends time. Through several examples (mainly marginal notes in the manuscripts and distinctiones), it is shown how the exegetical exercise is initially exploited with predication in mind. Conversely, traces of the exegetical exercise are sought out within homelies and sermons. If indeed there is evidence of this exercise, even in its more technical aspects, it is nevertheless necessary to characterise exegesis specifically in its form geared toward predication, which grants considerable importance to tropology and topicality. | ||

La littérature médiévale montre que les relations entre les deux sont bien plus complexes. Une approche est tentée à partir de la « triade herméneutique » (comprendre, interpréter, appliquer) : correspond-elle aux trois démarches que décrit Pierre le Chantre (lectio - disputatio - praedicatio) ou, plutôt, aux trois sens de l’exégèse des Victorins (littera - allegoria - tropologia) ? Exégèse et prédication se situent toutes deux dans une dimension sacrée et s’efforcent toutes deux de retrouver et de transmettre le caractère particulier d’une Parole qui transcende le temps. À partir de plusieurs exemples (surtout notes marginales dans les manuscrits et distinctiones), on montre comment une première exploitation du travail exégétique est faite en vue de la prédication. Inversement, on cherche dans les homélies et les sermons les traces du travail exégétique. S’il est assurément présent dans ses aspects les plus techniques, il conviendra néanmoins de définir plus spécifiquement une exégèse propre à la prédication, accordant une place majeure à la tropologie et à l’actualisation. | ||
