| Sumario: | Hugh of Saint-Victor is not writing a basic Institution of novices as it was commonly practiced in the middle ages. Instead, he is providing an initiation to a “philosophy of gesture and speech” which rather than just containing simple definitions exposes a rare harmony between the internal and the external (intus et foris). Gestures speak and speech is expressive. Through this two-fold attention to body and speech an incarnated philosophy is uncovered, one sought out but rarely found. Upon examination, we will rediscover the weight of our gestures and the gravity of our words. RésuméHugues de Saint-Victor n’écrit pas une simple Institution des novices tel que cela se pratique ordinairement au Moyen Âge. Il inaugure à proprement parler une “philosophie du geste et de la parole” qui, loin de s’en tenir à de simples définitions, fait voir une rare harmonie de l’interne et de l’externe (intus et foris). Les gestes parlent et les paroles expriment. Dans cette double attention au corps et à la parole se déchiffre une philolosophie incarnée tant recherchée mais rarement trouvée. À y retourner, nous y retrouverons le poids de nos gestes comme aussi la gravité de nos mots. |
