After briefly outlining their author’s historiographical background, the present article concentrates on the books themselves and concerns itself primarily with the correspondences between the physical elements and the psychological instances developed in the fourth sermon and in the letter about the soul and spirituality. Such correspondences initiate an interiorisation that begins with ethics and culminates with a prostration of the superior abilities of the soul before Christ’s deity, evoked through a reading of the Transfiguration. The correspondences with the macrocosm should not conceal the fact that the soul itself is the image of God (of which we are reminded in the second sermon), even within a well balanced spirituality where affect holds an important place. | ||
| 520 | |a RésuméLe livre des créatures et ceux de l’Écriture sainte figurent au sermon 9 du cistercien Isaac de l’Étoile dans un agencement de six livres très original. Cet article y revient après un point sur les données historiographiques concernant cet auteur. Mais il envisage surtout les correspondances entre les éléments physiques et les instances psychologiques développées au sermon 4 et dans la lettre sur l’âme et la spiritualité qu’elles illustrent. Ces correspondances tracent une voie d’intériorisation partant de l’éthique et qui culmine dans une prosternation des facultés supérieures de l’âme devant la divinité du Christ, évoquée à partir d’une lecture de la Transfiguration. Les correspondances avec le macrocosme ne sauraient laisser oublier que c’est l’âme qui est image de Dieu (ainsi qu’il est rappelé au sermon 2), même dans une spiritualité très équilibrée où l’affect garde une place importante. | ||
