| Summary: | Long neglected, Comte’s religious theories are beginning to stir new interest. This introduction recalls the circumstances in which the author of Cours was lead to develop his religion of Humanity, and then briefly describes its key features: the definition of religion as the « state of perfect unity »; the priority accorded the cult that embraced both private and domestic worship as well as the public worship most often at the center of devotion; the transformation of science into dogma, and the dominating position given to sociology in this domain. The conclusion examines the fashion in which Comte conceived of the Positivist Church and its relations with the state. Longtemps négligées, les théories religieuses de Comte commencent à susciter à nouveau l’intérêt. Cette présentation rappelle dans quelles circonstances l’auteur du Cours a été amené à développer sa religion de l’Humanité, puis en décrit rapidement les grands traits : la définition de la religion comme « état de parfaite unité »; la priorité accordée au culte qui, outre le culte public auquel on s’en tient le plus souvent, comprenait encore un culte privé et un culte domestique; la transformation de la science en dogme et la place prépondérante accordée dans ce domaine à la sociologie. la conclusion examine la façon dont Comte concevait l’Église positiviste et ses rapports avec l’État. |
