AB Le but de l'article est d'examiner la lecture faite de Duns Scot par le fondateur du pragmatisme, le philosophe américain Charles Sanders Peirce, dont le projet fut de constituer une métaphysique scientifique et réaliste fortement inspirée du Docteur Subtil Par la qualité de la lecture, par les mérites, autant que par les défauts repérés dans la solution scotiste au problème des universaux, Peirce rend hommage au rôle joué par Duns Scot dans l'histoire de la métaphysique, mais propose aussi certains aménagements féconds pour une métaphysique future. The aim of the paper is to examine the reading made of Duns Scotus by the founder of pragmatism, the American philosopher Charles Sanders Peirce, whose project was to constitute a realistic and scientific metaphysics, highly inspired by the Subtile Doctor. Through the careful analysis he makes of Scotus's solution to the problem of universals, together with the merits and limitations he diagnoses in it, Peirce stresses the role played by Duns Scotus in the history of metaphysics, but also proposes some fruitful modifications for a possible future metaphysics.
