Chenu aux caractéristiques du métier de théologien lui permit de replacer le travail de S. Thomas dans les conditions matérielles et intellectuelles de l'exercice de cette profession. D'un inventaire des apports propres du P. Chenu à la connaissance de la société médiévale, on retiendra en particulier son analyse de la catégorie de « novitas », qu'il ne faut pas rabattre sur une théorie simpliste du progrès. A reading of Études de philosophie médiévale (1939) gave rise to an encounter between Fr. Chenu's work and a living (since constantly founded in history) theology, in order to bring to light the « historicity of eternity ». The attention Fr. Chenu gave to the characteristics of the job of a theologian allowed him to resituate Aquina's work in the material and intellectual conditions of the exercise of that profession. From an inventory of the riches that Fr. Chenu himself brought to the science of Medieval society, one should take particular note of his analysis of the category « novitas » which should not hark back to a simplistic theory of progress. | ||
