Loisy et des exégètes « indépendants », non la « sienne ». Le P. Lagrange avait en effet cherché une voie médiane, laissant toute sa place au magistère. Néanmoins, celui-ci rejeta « sa » méthode. Il faudra l'encyclique Divino afflante Spiritu (1943) pour qu'elle fût enfin reconnue. Father Lagrange is considered to have introduced the historical-critical method into catholic exegesis. If this is the case, how could Father Lagrange claim that the decree Lamentabili (1907) did not condemn any his "theses"? Indeed does not the 12th article condemn the historical critical method? This condemnation was in fact directed not at "his" method, but at the method of A. Loisy and the "independent" exegetes. Father Lagrange sought a middle line, leaving the way open for the Magisterium. Nevertheless, the latter rejected "his" method. Only through the promulgation of the encyclical Divino afflante Spiritu (1943) did it finally receive recognition. | ||
