Dans son In De Anima Philopon donne une interprétation néoplatonicienne de la psychogonie: elle y est considérée comme un exposé symbolique portant sur des structures éternelles tant au niveau de l'astronomie qu'à celui de l'âme raisonnable humaine et celui de l'âme du monde. Dans le De aeternitate mundi contra Proclum, par contre, Philopon défend une lecture d'abord littérale de la psychogonie: Platon y traite, dit-il, de l'animation des corps célestes au moment même de leur création. Cette nouvelle lecture est caractéristique des débuts de la philosophie de Philopon II. This article seeks to show that a comparison, as proposed by Philoponus, of two interpretations of Plato's psychogony in the Timaeus (35A-37C), leads inevitably to the conclusion that Philoponus's commentary on Aristotle's De Anima, and his later work De Aeternitate mundi contra Proclum, are thrown into contradistinction by a fundamental change in the writer's mode of thought. In the former work Philoponus gives a Neoplatonic interpretation of the psychogony, in which it is considered as a symbolic exposition relating to eternal structures in the astronomical field as well as in the fields of the rational human soul and the world-soul. In the latter work, however, Philoponus upholds a literal rather than symbolic interpretation of the psychogony: in it, he says, Plato treats the movements of the celestial bodies as having been imparted at the moment of their creation. This revised interpretation is characteristic of the new philosophy of Philoponus's later works. | ||
