Identifiée en ses différents moments, mais ramenée toujours à son principe, dit argument ou idée, l'unicité de la preuve se juge aux conditions de la formation d'un penser vrai, comme il a été souvent montré. Or, si l'argument d'Anselme lie le retour sur soi du cogito à son extension la plus vive, l'idée de Descartes semble plutôt se chercher dans un cogito, assigné maintenant à la seule certitude de soi, compris dans un simple accord de soi avec soi, que le cogitatum répète métaphoriquement en idée absolument auto-affirmative. Il conduit alors à privilégier les interprétations les plus favorables à l'autonomie de la preuve « a priori ». We have, within the limits of the Proslogion and the fifth of the Metaphysical meditations, a proof of existence whose distinguishing characteristic is that it shows itself to be unique. Its uniqueness is discerned here and there in the course of the argument, which however always reverts to its principle, and one can only form a judgment after acquiring a true manner of thought, as has often been shown. Now, if Anselm's argument conjoins the introversion of the cogito upon itself with its most extreme extension, the idea of Descartes is rather to be found in a cogitatum. This article follows that reasoning by presupposing the cogito to be now relegated to the certitude of self or a simple accord of self with self, while the cogitatum similarly becomes a completely self-affirming idea. The article thus gives preference to arguments which have the self-sufficiency of an "a priori" proof. | ||
