Les attributs s'échangent contre des fonctions, quand Dieu est invoqué par la raison moderne pour suturer le système. A la combinatoire des noms divins succède alors une économie. Pourtant, d'un moment à l'autre de la pensée de Descartes, Dieu, changeant de nom, change de site et de fonction, comme pour attester l'inachèvement d'un système en perpétuelle transformation. Le passage à Malebranche et à Leibniz permet, au-delà des homologies de structure, de suivre les dérives du site et de la fonction d'un Dieu en incessant déplacement. La fonction « dieu » serait ainsi la pierre de touche de la complétude et de la stabilité du système. The recurring problem of classifying divine attributes, fitting them into a series, and inferring one from another, appears in a new form in the systématisation imposed by classical philosophies. When God is invoked by modern rationalism in order to lend plausibility to the system, attributes tend to be replaced by functions. The multiplicity of divine names then becomes more sparing. Nevertheless, as the thinking of Descartes passes from one phase to another, God changes in location and in function with every new name given to Him, as if to stress the incompleteness of a system in perpetual transformation. Moving on to Malebranche and Leibniz one observes, over and above a marked similarity of structure, the same shifts of location and function on the part of a God in continual movement. The function "God" thus seems to be the criterion of the oneness and stability of the system. | ||
