Reflecting on the status of the "exceptional man" in his Book on Adler, Kierkegaard explains that the reference must first be taken as applying to "generality", avoiding limitless application. It is then only—starting from a position opposed to "generality" — that the ordinary man (living in immanence) stands out and the exceptional man, chosen by God, ready to live the relationship and tension between generality and the individual call to martyrdom, becomes visible. | ||
