Le jeu dialectique qui s'impose à l'Église dans l'exercice de sa mission doctrinale et pastorale devrait permettre de reconnaître loyalement et d'expliquer théologiquement le fait que l'Église catholique romaine ait parfois dû amender certaines de ses décisions doctrinales antérieures. Le principe d'explication proposé par une Lettre de l'épiscopat allemand en 1967 est de plus grande portée que celle dont elle fait mention. Ce n'est que progressivement, selon le canon de Vincent de Lérins, et par approximations et retouches successives, que l'Église a pu se reconnaître « assurée dans la Vérité (H. Küng). L'entière acception biblique du mol « vérité », négligée dans les débals de Vatican I sur l'infaillibilité, peut grandement contribuer à faire accepter cette thèse de caractère à la fois historique et théologique. L'A. note au passage quelques retombées oecuméniques (Rapport final de l'ARCIC) et pastorales (crise interne suscitée par Écône) des vues proposées. An extensive resumption of the biblical notion of 'truth' seems essential to the A. in the present discussion about Infallibility so as to reach a solution. The dialectical process that the Church must follow while exercising its doctrinal and pastoral mission, should allow to acknowledge sincerely and to explain theologically the fact that the Roman Catholic Church has sometimes had to amend some of its previous doctrinal decisions. The principle of the explanation suggested in a Letter of the German Episcopate in 1967 reaches further than that which it mentions. It is only gradually according to Vincent of Lérins' rule and through continual approaches and alterations that the Church has seen itself as "established in Truth" (H. Rung). The whole biblical acceptation of the word "truth" neglected in the debates on Vatican I on Infallibility can greatly contribute to an acceptance of the thesis marked both by history and theology. The A. eventually puts down some oecumenical (Final Report of the ARCIC) and pastoral (internal crisis caused by Écône) consequences of the offered prospects. | ||
