A l'ancienne capitulation, vénérable mais archaïque, succèdent les chapitres modernes, beaucoup plus homogènes, que nous connaissons. L'étude des manuscrits montre que cette transformation radicale ne s'est pas opérée sans tâtonnements. Avant d'en arriver à l'édition définitive, certains Livres ont été divisés non moins de cinq fois. L'analyse de ces modèles contribue à mettre en lumière les méthodes scolastiques, ainsi que l'impact de celles-ci sur les études bibliques. Between 1196 and 1220, the theologians of the University of Paris, desirous of employing a more effective instrument of work, effected a complete redoing of the divisions of the Bible. The ancient chaptering, venerable but archaic, gave way to the modern chapters, much more homogeneous, which we know. The study of the manuscripts shows that this radical transformation was not put into effect without cautiously feeling the way. Before arriving at the definitive edition, certain Books had been divided no less than five times. The analysis of these models contributes in bringing to light the scholastic methods, and even the impact of these upon biblical studies. | ||
