At ages 13–14 the influence of practice on internal religiousness was found to be greater than the reverse process. At ages 15–16 the influence of belief upon practice is greater than the influence of practice upon experiential religiousness. At ages 17–18 the greater influence of practice upon internal religiousness is reestablished. The results are interpreted in the context of a theory of religious development. The data are taken from a national probability sample of U.S. adolescents aged 13 to 18.
