Summary: | An attempt is made to render the church-sect typology empirically useful. Several dimensions of the ideal type are isolated and indicators developed for each on the basis of recently formulated definitions of church and sect. A sample of Protestant clergymen is classified into both polar categories as well as into an intermediate category. Suggestions are made as to how such a classification scheme might be used in the development of systematic theory. |
