520 |a The family size and fertility of participants in a family planning clinic is compared with similar data from national studies. Family size is found to be positively related to wife's education and secondarily to husband's occupation. Generally, the relationships from national studies are confirmed in this sample of high fertility couples, although length of marriage is still the primary determinant of fertility in the couples under study. The large (average) family size of these couples suggests that attendance at the clinic probably constitutes their first serious exposure to family planning information, although their family size is still smaller than the “unplanned” families reported in the national studies of fertility.
