Une vraie sécurité serait donnée par un savoir qui couvre tout, telle est la conviction de l’homme moderne. La certitude est autre chose que la sécurité. Devant Dieu toute sécurité risque d’aboutir à l’idolâtrie. La foi ose un autre rapport à Dieu. Et Dieu ose un autre rapport à l’être humain. C’est en découvrant cette dimension du rapport entre Dieu et l’homme que des théologiens aussi différents que Martin Luther et Saint Ignace de Loyola se rapprochent pour un moment. 
520 |a Human beings seek security in their relationship to the world and their relationship to themselves, just as they seek security in front of God. A true security might come from an all-encompassing knowledge, such is the conviction of modern human beings. Certainty is something other than security. Before God, our security runs the risk to leading to idolatry. Faith dares another relationship to God. And God dares another relationship to human beings. It is in discovering this dimension of the relationship between God and humankind that theologians as different as Martin Luther and Saint Ignatius of Loyola come closer together for a time.
