It was hypothesized that the strength of primary group ties are related to religious commitment, providing evidence for a collective-expressive view of the church, and that the process of acculturation weakens these ties leading to a lessening of religious commitment. Three components of commitment were defined, and four blocks of predictor variables were introduced. Multiple regression was employed to discover net relationships. The acculturation variables predicted saliency of religion, ritual commitment, and devotional commitment; the family dynamics block predicted saliency and ritual commitment; and pastoral relations predicted only saliency. Demographic variables did not significantly predict, except for family income which was negatively related to saliency.
