Summary: | Recent controversy over the association between religious motivation and maturity was clarified through analysis of age correlations with measures of Means, End, and Quest religiosity. The results most importantly revealed the Intrinsic-End dimension to be directly related to age with an opposite relationship evident for the Interactional-Quest continuum. In general, responding on the Interactional scale appeared to peak in late adolescence and early adulthood. These data suggest that an Interactional-Quest orientation reflects a kind of searching for answers that is typical of individuals seeking to resolve identity issues and that Quest may serve as a precursor to an Intrinsic form of commitment. |
