Contrairement à la vue traditionnelle, les cols XV-XIX ne seraient ni un manuel de la guerre ni une narration exhaustive de la bataille; elles seraient plutôt, un ouvrage « littéraire-liturgique », dans lequel les rubriques et les narrations de la bataille ne jouent qu'un rôle secondaire aux hymnes. L'hymne dans les cols XVI-XVII, qui est unique dans son emploi de la terminologie, dans sa description de la défaite, et dans son portrait d'un camp sectaire qui se compose des fidèles et des infidèles, est le seul qui n'est pas été adapté à partir des cols X-XIV. On the basis of verbal parallels, the author argues that cols XV-XIX of the War Scroll (1QM) are a redactive adaptation of an earlier liturgical work represented by cols X-XIV. In comparison with cols X-XIV, cols XV-XIX tend to downplay human efforts and attribute victory more exclusively to God. Contrary to the traditional view, cols XV-XIX are neither a war manual nor a comprehensive battle narrative, instead, a "literary-liturgical" work in which rubrics and battle narratives play only a subsidiary role to the hymns. The hymn in cols XVI-XVII is the only one not adapted from cols X-XIV and is unique in its use of terminology, description of defeat, and portrayal of a sectarian camp consisting of both the faithful and faithless.
