La référence à ce poète de second plan doit être interprétée à la lumière de la figure de Théodecte dans la Lettre d’Aristée. Elle permet de comprendre qu’Irénée de Lyon dépendait d’une source qui blâmait Simon pour ses travaux de grammairien touchant la Bible grecque des Septante.\n4207 \n4207 relates the story of a prostitute, named Helena, rescued by Simon Magus from a brothel in Tyre. The story is composed in order to make Simon the origin of gnostic whom Ireneus of Lyon will refute in his ensuying work. But he also quotes Stesichorus, the poet, in connexion with Helena of Troy. Quoting this second rank poet must be understood in the light of Theodectus in the Adversus haereses. This influence allows us to think that Ireneus of Lyon depended on a source which blamed Simon for the works of this grammarian on the Greek Bible of the Septuagint.\n4207 \n4207
