This brings the Laver above the western end of Cistern 5 – a geological fissure to be identified with the 'pit (מחילה) which extended downward into the land', mentioned in the Temple Scroll, Col. 32:12-14. Both Houses were real structures of the pre-Herodian Temple, and a better understanding of the architectural evolution of the Temple is permitted.\n4207 Une nouvelle lecture et interprétation des cols 31,10-33,13 du Rouleau du Temple, décrivant les bâtiments du Bassin et celui des Ustensiles, suggère que, relativement à la position qu’en propose Yadin, le bâtiment du Bassin devrait être déplacée de 28 coudées vers l’ouest. Cela place le Bassin au-dessus de l’extrémité ouest de la Citerne no 5 – une fissure géologique qu’on peut identifier avec «le puits (מחילה) qui s’enfonce dans la terre», du Rouleau du Temple, col. 32,12-14. Les deux structures étaient de réelles constructions du Temple pré-hérodien, et ainsi nous arrivons à une meilleure compréhension de l’évolution architecturale du Temple.\n4207 \n4207
