L'hypothèse selon laquelle l'actuel Haram esh-Sharif/mont du Temple fut jadis la forteresse Antonia est indéfendable. Cette hypothèse ne correspond pas à ce que nous savons par Josèphe de l'Antonia, et elle ne rend pas compte des vestiges archéologiques découverts dans la section ouest du mur nord.
