| Σύνοψη: | Cette note publie une inscription grecque gravée au-dessus de la porte d'entrée du tombeau-mémorial dit d'Absalom dans la Vallée de Josaphat. Les Byzantins ont fait de ce monument funéraire le tombeau du grand-prêtre Zacharie, père de Jean-Baptiste et martyr, en l'assimilant au prêtre Zacharie, fils de Yehoyada/Barachie tué dans le temple. Ils y ont localisé aussi la sépulture du Vieillard Siméon, tradition qui s'est perpétuée pendant un bon millénaire, quelque temps encore après la présence des Croisés à Jérusalem. This note publishes a Greek inscription engraved above the entrance door of the Absalom's tomb-memorial in the Valley of Jehoshaphat. The Byzantines changed this funerary monument into the tomb of the High Priest Zachariah, father of John the Baptist and martyr, assimilating him to the priest Zachariah, son of Yehoyada/Barachiah, who was murdered in the temple. They also placed beside him the tomb of the righteous Simeon, a tradition which lasted over a millennium until after the Crusaders' stay in Jerusalem. |
