This article links the gnostico-cabalistic interpretation which has been proposed by Di Segni for an inscription of the Herodion to the reading proposed by Strus for an inscription of ˓Aïn Fattir (RB 1995). It adds some indications to the possible context in which this clue appeared in Christian Palestine, via the neo-pythagorism of the Roman period, and perhaps already, in Hellenistic Judaism. |
