520 |a In Ant. XIX, 213-216 Josephus quotes a letter written to the Delian Jews concerning their rights. The author of the letter is a Roman magistrate whose identity has not yet been established by contemporary scholarship, since the name which appears in the document is generally believed to be corrupted. It appears however that the name is not corrupted. It is that used by Octavian, the future Augustus, in the period of his consulship in 43 BCE. The identity of the Roman magistrate who wrote to the Delian Jews is no longer a mystery.
