The first, KTU 1.100 tells of the plight of the Mother-of-Horses whose offspring are dying from snake-bites. Shapshu, the sun-goddess, carries a message to the gods, each of whom acts in the usual way, employing charmers, incantations and other measures to exhaust the venom of snakes. Finally, the deity Horon performs a magical rite of his own which effectively renders the snakes impotent. The Mother-of-Horses and Horon are married, thus guaranteeing permanent control over snakes. In KTU 1.107, a similar plight attracts the compassionate attention of Shapshu, when a figure named Srġzz is distressed over widespread snakebites. The gods act to gather up the venom, and conceivably, attention was also given to healing those afflicted. KTU 1.107 contains what was probably the text of an actual incantation, and both texts were meant to be recited. Poetic passages enrich these magical texts, and relate them to mythological motifs. Les deux textes étudiés exposent les mesures thérapeutiques et magiques utilisées à Ugarit pour prévenir les morsures de serpent. Le premier, KTU 1.100, est la plainte de la Mère-des-Chevaux, dont la progéniture est menacée de mort par les serpents. Shapshu, la déesse solaire, transmet un message aux dieux ; chacun d'eux agit de la manière courante, utilisant des charmeurs, des incantations et d'autres moyens pour anéantir le venin. Finalement, le dieu Horon accomplit un rite magique qui lui est propre, et qui rend les serpents inoffensifs. La Mère-des-Chevaux et Horon sont mariés, garantissant ainsi un contrôle permanent sur les serpents. Dans KTU 1.107, une plainte similaire attire l'attention compatissante de Shapshu, quand un personnage nommé Srġzz se trouve dans la détresse causée par des morsures de serpent répétées. Les dieux agissent pour rassembler le venin, et se préoccupent de la guérison de ceux qui ont été mordus. KTU 1.107 contient ce qui probablement était le texte d'une incantation effective.
