Description
Summary:How to address controversial issues in schools is a recurring question for researchers and teachers alike. A widespread perception in the literature is that dialogue and discussion are the most appropriate pedagogical strategies. However, little attention has been given to other pedagogical approaches, such as arts and drama pedagogy. The overall objective of this article is therefore to explore the potential of forum theatre. Through action research with secondary school RE-teachers, students’ utterances about homosexuality were transformed into a forum theatre session. The risks and benefits of using forum theatre in this context are discussed in relation to its basis in critical pedagogy, and areas for further research are identified.
