520 |a The Book of Nunnaminster (London, British Library, MS Harley 2965) is a late eighth-century decorated prayerbook. This article focuses on two later additions to the manuscript, through which a tenth-century provenance at Nunnaminster has been assigned: a vernacular account of the geographic boundaries of the community (fol. 40v) and three confessional prayers (fol. 41r). These later additions reveal the extent to which considerations of gender inflected devotional practice and conceptions of institutional memory at Nunnaminster. Indeed, the quasi-liturgical religious practices and allusion to the foundation of the community inherent within the confessional formulae and vernacular account, respectively, prove inseparable from gender.
